I know many people out there just want to be done with the whole Smitfraud infection and they want protection so this does not ever happen again. The quickest way to remove Smitfraud is to use software that actually works at removing this threat and the other threats like Virutmonde and Zlob that come down with it. Once you re-boot simply hit the run a full scan option and let it do it’s thing.
For those that ignored this infection for a long time you may need to re-set a few settings. Instead of walking you though all of that just download and run this tool called Smitfraudfix . While this tool is good at cleaning up left over traces it does not address the full issue or offer any kind of future protection. I thought AVG would protect my computer but you get what you pay for. I download the the Pctools software and it did fully remove smitfraud and finally I have my computer back. The scan did take about an hour but seems to of gotten it all on the first full scan. Thanks for telling me what actually works at removing smitfraud.
Unfortunately, SmitFraudFix.exe does NOT work for Vista/Windows 7. Apparently, Spyware Doctor w/Anti-virus is about the only way to eliminate a SmitFraud from a Vista/Windows 7 environment. However, in reading several reviews of Spyware Doctor (e.g., CNet), a common complaint is that Spyware Doctor really slows down the computer on which it’s installed.
Any hopes of SmitFraudFix being updated to be able to run in Vista/Windows 7?
Smitfraudfix.exe just isn’t that supported any more. So most likely it will not.
As far as the SDA client slowing your system down. I don’t know what you read but SDA does not have a huge increase of processing power at all to your computer. I use the 2010 on my main 3 computers and on a few test computers I use to infect viruses with. It slows your system down as does all antivirus clients but I can not notice any measurable difference. Then again all my computers do have at least 2G’s and the main ones have at least 4Gigs/
I would recommend simply trying the free trial for a few days and see for your self if it slows your computer down. You will notice any computer being slow when a virus scan is being done.
FYI: Spybot Search and destroy and Malware bytes are two other alternatives to use. While the free versions don’t offer that good of protection they sure work well to help remove threats.
